Ernest Grant, Ph.D.
President, American Nurses Association
In 2019, Grant became the first man to serve as president of the ANA, which represents 4.3 million registered nurses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he focused on vaccine education and outreach, along with collaborating on initiatives such as “Made to Save,” “COVID Vaccine Facts for Nurses,” “It’s Up to You” and “Count Me In” to underscore the critical impact that nurses have in their communities. Under Grant’s guidance, ANA also joined with Johnson & Johnson and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership to study the pandemic’s impact on the nursing profession. He says the pandemic “lifted the veil” on the broad range of nursing challenges: providing expert, compassionate care; shaping policy; advocating for resources; and serving communities by making them safer and healthier. With more than 30 years of experience, Grant urges fellow nurses to “drive the solutions” in their industry.
