When Mihaljevic took the top job at Cleveland Clinic in 2018, he was known as a cutting-edge cardiothoracic surgeon. In 2021, he led the system to post a record $12.4 billion in operating revenue and $746 million in operating income. He has grown Cleveland Clinic’s footprint to 22 hospitals and 226 outpatient locations, with more capital projects—worth $1.3 billion—in the works or just completed, including the new 184-bed Cleveland Clinic London. Under his leadership, the system invested tens of millions in digital health and high-speed internet access, childhood lead poisoning awareness, infant mortality prevention and the construction of an apartment complex and grocery market in the Fairfax neighborhood of Cleveland. Mihaljevic joined the system in 2004 as a surgeon and has performed more than 3,000 operations, specializing in minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures.
