Dr. Mitchell Katz
President and CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals
Since becoming CEO of the nation’s largest municipal health system in 2018, Katz has led efforts to extend care to 80,000 uninsured New Yorkers and to improve the health of homeless people in the city. He has played a major role in the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, tripling the ICU capacity at the system’s 11 hospitals early on to respond to the patient surge. And he helped lead the city’s vaccination efforts, with the system administering more than 1.75 million shots since they first became available in December 2020. Katz also closed a budget deficit of about $2 billion and has continued to invest in outpatient facilities to ensure wider access to primary care.
