Siegel, a former health system executive, has been advocating on behalf of America’s safety-net hospitals since 2010, representing more than 300 members. Most recently, he has been proving guidance on the ongoing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic, structural racism and health equity. On the policy front, he has highlighted potential advantages and pitfalls for safety-net hospitals under provisions of major healthcare legislation, such as the Affordable Care Act and President Joe Biden’s proposed Build Back Better plan. Previously, he was CEO at two of the organization’s members—the system that’s now NYC Health & Hospitals, and Tampa General Hospital. Siegel also served as New Jersey’s health commissioner.
