Under Pittman’s leadership, PHI acted quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic to not just support states and providers, but fill in gaps that existed in the public health infrastructure. That included creating a contact tracing program in the Pacific Northwest that ultimately resulted in a $63 million grant from Kaiser Permanente to expand the project. She also championed efforts to address social determinants of health that became more pronounced during the pandemic.
