Beyond work to respond to the pandemic, which included initiatives to contain costs, Jacobson kept the Milwaukee-based system focused on an expansion strategy that began in 2020—opening two community hospitals with two more scheduled to open in 2022. Early in fiscal 2021, the system’s operating margin hit 6.3% versus 4.4% for the prior year, without federal relief funds. Under her leadership, Froedtert started a new resource group that focuses on women in leadership. Currently, 83% of staff are female, including 69% of leaders.
