Cost reduction
Harris Rosen
President and chief operating officer, Rosen Hotels & Resorts
RosenCare, the hotel chain's healthcare unit, has stood out over the years for its innovations and ability to cut costs while providing a high level of care. Since launching in the 1990s, RosenCare has generated total healthcare savings of $460 million. Among its achievements: a chronic care management program that reduced costs for diabetics to $5,000 per year. This is done through care management, free insulin and free testing kits to ensure compliance. RosenCare also provides free on-site mammograms and has a compliance rate of 76%, compared with national average of 66%. The organization struck a deal with Walmart, too, in which employees can get free generic drugs. RosenCare has adapted the model for other employers, including a school district in Florida that has saved $15 million over the past two years.
