Heading up the health system’s hospitals in the Northeast, Tuer was at the forefront of battling COVID-19 during the first surge of the pandemic. He quickly built a regional inventory system to ensure hospitals had enough personal protective equipment, hand sanitizers and other critical supplies. Aside from the pandemic response, Tuer implemented the system’s program to assess the total cost of an episode of care and drive better utilization of resources. Those efforts resulted in better patient throughput, reduced ED crowding delays in the OR and led to overall savings.
