As a greater spotlight has been put on structural racism, Carrington continued her efforts to make Northwell a leader in addressing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. She led an organization-wide effort to broaden the dialogue and set strategic goals on DEI, including leadership training. Under her leadership, DEI is now a major measure in calculating executive compensation. She also expanded the role of diversity councils to ensure there’s more attention to equity goals across the system. For the past two years, Northwell was No. 1 among health systems on DiversityInc’s annual rankings.
