Dr. Edward Kim
Physician-in-chief, City of Hope Orange County, and vice physician-in-chief, City of Hope National Medical Center
Kim broke new ground as lead investigator for a paper published by Clinical Cancer Research, which recommended bold changes in clinical trials. The key focus point for Kim and his fellow researchers was calling for an end to protocols that often prevent minority candidates from participating in a trial—either because guidelines are too rigid or the candidate may be sicker than others due to limited access to care. Trials should include more patients who look more like those who physicians treat on a regular basis, Kim and his fellow researchers argued.
