Finley became head of the regional health system in February 2021. Before that, he served as CEO of Alameda Health System for five years. During his tenure at AHS, he oversaw creation of a diversity, equity and inclusion task force that worked to ensure the system better addressed health equity, cultural sensitivity and workforce diversity. When he started at AHS, 80% of the leadership team was white men. By the time he left, that makeup had changed by 20% for ethnic representation, 22% for gender differences and 6% for sexual orientation. He is embarking on similar strategies at Atrium Health Navicent.
