Nancy Pelosi
U.S. representative, House Speaker, U.S. House of Representatives
Pelosi is the first woman Democratic leader of the House of Representatives and the first woman elected speaker. In 2021, she orchestrated House passage of the Build Back Better legislation, which includes $165 billion in healthcare spending and $150 billion for home care. She helped enact the Affordable Care Act during the Obama administration, pushing for lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs. She also championed lower prescription drug prices by allowing Medicare Part D to negotiate prices and requiring manufacturers to justify price increases.
Pelosi speaks: “I believe the path to healthcare for all is a path following the lead of the Affordable Care Act. Let’s use our energy to have healthcare for all Americans, and that involves over 150 million families that have it through the private sector.”
