Dr. Karen DeSalvo
Chief health officer, Google
Before joining Google, DeSalvo served stints as acting assistant secretary for health as well as national coordinator for health information technology. She became New Orleans’ health commissioner in 2011 and later joined the faculty at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas in Austin with professorships in internal medicine and population health.
DeSalvo speaks: “We have created an approach to health that is very focused on leveraging the health care system and all of its very extensive parts, and have created an incentive structure for that very expensive system that drives it to want to make more and more money, and not do that on the backs of better and better health.”
