Perlin will lead the Joint Commission as its next president and CEO effective March 1, 2022. Before joining HCA in 2006, Perlin was Under Secretary for Health in the Department of Veterans Affairs and chaired the Secretary of Veterans Affairs’ Special Medical Advisory Group. Perlin has served on multiple boards, including the Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Foundation, HHS Health IT Standards Committee, and National Quality Forum. 

Dr. Perlin speaks: “We built this learning health infrastructure, and it’s allowed us to work in a couple of levels simultaneously. One is in terms of improving care at the bedside, and the other is in terms of contributing to the understanding of quality and outcomes and advancing practice through large-scale comparative effectiveness studies.”
