McMahon was named president and chief operating officer of UnitedHealth Group in 2021. He previously served as CEO of UnitedHealthcare and president and COO of Optum where he oversaw OptumInsight, technology, operations, administration and strategy. He was executive vice president of enterprise operations for UnitedHealth Group, CEO of OptumRx and head of UnitedHealth’s pharmacy benefit management programs. Before joining UnitedHealth, McMahon was head of worldwide airport operations for Northwest Airlines.
