David Fialkow
Co-founder and managing director, General Catalyst
General Catalyst is a venture capital firm with more than $8 billion in assets. It has worked on three special purpose acquisition companies, including a $500 million healthcare organization and another $500 million operation focused on digitizing pharmaceuticals. The firm also teamed up with Glen Tullman, the former CEO of Livongo, on a employer-sponsored care startup, Transcarent, that launched with $40 million.
General Catalyst backs innovative technology companies, including Airbnb, Datalogix, Oscar, KAYAK, Snapchat, and Warby Parker. A recognized expert in financial services, digital health, artificial intelligence and data analytics, Fialkow has built and sold multiple companies, including National Leisure Group, Alliance Development Group, Retail Growth ATM Systems; and Starboard Cruise Services. He’s also pursued a successful career as documentary filmmaker.
Fialkow speaks: “You don’ t need to have all the answers. What you need is to be curious and open-minded enough to learn.”
Key to General Catalyst’s moves into healthcare, however, is Managing Partner Hemant Taneja. His investments include Livongo, a partnership with Jefferson Health and the founding of Commure, a healthcare software company.
“I focus on working with founders who are building technology companies with an authentic and responsible mission. A mission-driven company usually requires an investor with patience and long-term perspective, and I feel those are my core strengths"
