Mary Ann Osborn
Senior vice president and chief nursing executive, UnityPoint Health
With experience in crisis management during the Ebola outbreak and during natural disasters, Osborn was tasked by UnityPoint’s CEO to stand up and lead a system-wide incident command center when COVID-19 hit. She quickly assembled a team of clinical, supply chain, operations, and communications leaders and worked with the data team to create predictive modeling to forecast surges, among other things. She also spearheaded the creation of in-house nurse traveler program, which allowed UnityPoint nurses to work across various system hospitals in the three states in which it operates. Osborn also played a key leadership role in developing a coordinated care program that reaches across inpatient and ambulatory teams and provides resources to help patients—including high-risk patients—to become more self-sufficient in managing their conditions, which has resulted in fewer hospital admissions.
