Markovich took over as president and CEO of the Columbus, Ohio-health system in July 2019. Several months later, as COVID-19 swept across the nation, he deftly led the health system through surging caseloads. That included overseeing creation of an incident command center that met daily in the early days of the pandemic. OhioHealth partnered with three competing health systems in the Central Ohio region to ensure there was adequate supply of personal protective equipment. Under his leadership, the health system is also making strides on board-approved measures to address diversity, equity and inclusion across such areas as patient care, workforce development and partnerships with community businesses.
