Dr. Rod Hochman
President and CEO, Providence
From the time it saw the first COVID-19 patient in the U.S. to now, Providence has played a leading role in trying to combat the virus. The health system ran some of the largest clinical trials in the country for drug therapies, including remdesivir and antibody testing. It is also conducting genomics research to understand why the virus affects some people more than others. Providence was also home to the 100 Million Mask Challenge, an effort to get people to mask up as case surges were occurring nationwide. The campaign was later adopted by the American Hospital Association, where Hochman serves as the 2021 board chair. Outside of COVID response efforts, Hochman continued to push Providence to expand its reach, including being a founding member of Truveta, a big data research effort with 13 other organizations that analyzes patient information to improve patient care.
