Dr. Richard Isaacs
CEO and executive director, Permanente Medical Group
Isaacs oversees two of the nation’s largest medical groups—Permanente Medical Group and the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group—totaling nearly 11,000 physicians and 40,000 staff. Isaacs held a key leadership role in Kaiser Permanente’s national command center throughout the pandemic. That included overseeing efforts to rapidly switch to video visits. By the end of 2020, Permanente Medical Group had conducted nearly 3.7 million video visits; the Mid-Atlantic group had done close to 1 million. Isaacs also led efforts to spread best practices across Kaiser Permanente and create a program in which population health teams monitored COVID patients as they recovered at home. Isaacs was named to the board of directors of the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine in 2020.
