Dr. Cheryl Pegus
Executive vice president, health and wellness, Walmart
Following a successful career at Cambia Health Solutions, Pegus joined Walmart in late 2020. During her tenure, the company pledged $100 million in grants over the next five years to address racial disparities. Grants so far have gone to such groups as NAACP, Unidos US, APIA Health Forum and the Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health to address vaccine hesitancy. The Walmart Foundation donated $5 million to the American Heart Association Bernard J. Tyson Impact Fund to address social determinants. The giant retailer is also seeing continued growth in Walmart health clinics, where 50% of visits are return patients. Pegus oversaw the launch of Walmart’s COVID-19 vaccine program nationally and partnered with a number of local organizations to get shots in arms, including in underserved locations. She serves on the American Heart Association board.
