Dr. Anthony Fauci
Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
Fauci has largely retained his role as “America’s doctor.” In fact, his life story was turned into a children’s book to that end: “Dr. Fauci: How a boy from Brooklyn became America’s doctor.” Along with his role at NIAID, he was appointed to serve as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden. He is one of the government’s most prominent figures when it comes to talking about response to the pandemic. But the change in administrations hasn’t stopped him from being a lightning rod, with congressional Republicans calling for his resignation due to confusing rollout of new guidance over wearing masks and controversy over the National Institute of Health’s funding of research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
