Dr. Alex Arroliga
Chief medical officer, Baylor Scott & White Health
Through a unique dyad approach, Arroliga and Baylor Scott & White Chief Nursing Officer Janice Walker oversee a clinical team of roughly 7,500 physicians and 16,000 nurses, working at 51 hospitals and 1,110 care sites. They’ve constructed a framework for strong doctor-nurse collaboration. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, they conducted three-times-a-week planning calls with operational leaders from across BSW. And they promoted a model that empowered front-line workers and emphasized safety. The system’s culture of safety index rose 2.5% over the previous year. Arroliga also oversees the Baylor Scott & White Research Institute. BSW was the first system in Texas to be approved for conducting trials for remdesivir and monoclonal antibody products.
