Eliran Malki
CEO, Belong.Life
Founded after Malki lost two relatives to cancer, Belong.Life is a patient engagement tool aimed at helping people navigate the delivery system. The Beating Cancer Together mobile app is a social network used in more than 100 countries that allows patients to collaborate on their experiences and share resources. The app has since expanded to multiple sclerosis patients and caregivers. Using artificial intelligence, the program helps deliver new information to clinical researchers on ways to improve the patient experience.
How do you identify opportunities for innovation?
Usually when I notice a problem, I ask myself a few questions: How should it be in a perfect world? Why is that not the situation? How can we change it? Then, I consider if it’s a problem worth solving, how it can be solved, and when it should be solved.
What advice do you have for people who know how to get an idea in front of managers but may be afraid of failing?
There is a saying: The only failure is not trying. Do your best. Practice with your friends and family if needed, and then give it your best shot. The first time may be tough, but the second time will be better. Even real winners are afraid of failing and this often drives them to practice more.
How do you stay focused on innovation during a crisis?
Most of the innovation in the world comes from challenging moments. This is a perfect time to look at things differently, to face the new challenges the world has provided and to try to solve them. Investing time in how you can make this situation better will drive innovation, generate creativity and even create new opportunities for some fun. Out of the darkness comes the light.
