Capeles has been instrumental in CHRISTUS’ efforts to reach underserved populations, targeting chronic-care services to at-risk patients, stratified by ZIP code, payer mix, race and ethnicity. Starting in October 2018, patients were made aware of resources to address social determinants during more than 4,000 visits, and repeat ED visits among this population fell from 12% to 8%. She was a key organizer of unconscious bias trainings for over 1,800 managers and set up a train-the-trainer education session on how to hold difficult conversations in the workplace in response to the national unrest that followed the killing of George Floyd.
