Esser joined Hackensack in 2018 and was promoted to his current role in early 2020. He played a key role in Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine becoming an independent medical school. He’s been very involved in the health system’s efforts to improve maternal outcomes in New Jersey, which has the fifth-highest rate of maternal deaths in the country. During the pandemic, he played a major role in helping to open the state’s first center dedicated to helping COVID-19 patients after recovery.
