In his first year as chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, Adams oversaw the first white coat ceremony for its medical school, celebrated its status as the first carbon neutral health system in the U.S., and gave back $500 million in federal relief funds. He also paid tribute to his predecessor Bernard Tyson by donating $1 million to the American Heart Association. Tyson died of a heart attack in 2019.
