Ernest Grant
President, American Nurses Association
Grant, who was elected to a second two-year term in July, is not shy about speaking up for nurses. After some, including President Donald Trump, suggested that healthcare providers were profiteering from COVID-19 patients, he said, “To claim that healthcare professionals are inflating the number of COVID-19 cases or deaths to make more money is outrageous, baseless, and dangerous.” By the same token, Grant is also willing to hold his membership’s feet to the fire. In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death and the resultant protests, he wrote in Modern Healthcare that nurses can do more: “When we are silent, we are complicit. This silence allows unchecked behavior of rogue police officers, racism and brutality to continue to be a threat to our society.”
