Dr. Rod Hochman
President and CEO, Providence
Hochman has led one of the country’s largest not-for-profit health systems for eight years, and his influence will grow next year as he serves as the American Hospital Association’s 2021 chair. But day-to-day, he dealt with testing shortages and financial pressure stemming from COVID-19. Providence’s patient service revenue dropped 10% in the first half of 2020, and admissions were 14% lower in the third quarter than the year prior. Hochman looked for ways to avoid billing patients for COVID treatment. “What we said is we’ve got to get these things done. We’ll figure it out on the back end,” he said in March.
