Bonnie Castillo
Executive director, National Nurses United
One of the most ardent voices for nurse safety during the pandemic, Castillo has used her position to spotlight the sacrifices being made in 2020. “We should not still be operating under crisis standards of care,” Castillo said after the release of a survey that found only 18% of nurses worked in hospitals where there was surge capacity planning and preparation. “Bonnie does not just work to heal patients; she works to heal society,” said civil rights activist Dolores Huerta upon Castillo’s recognition on Time’s list of 100 Most Influential People of 2020.
