Lateef became head of the Chicago-based hospital in May 2019 after serving as chief medical officer for the medical center and its parent system. Rush received national attention for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic. “We have created unique facilities and have a specially trained staff to address these kinds of outbreaks,” Lateef said in March as Chicago saw a surge in cases. Rush was one of the first health systems to embark on antibody testing.
