Dr. Theresa Madaline,
37
Healthcare epidemiologist, Montefiore Health System
Madaline leads infection prevention for the New York health system. Her skills were especially called into use during the measles outbreak this year. She instituted new protocols, including screening visitors to the emergency department. Anyone who may have been exposed to the virus was treated and offered post-exposure preventive care. Beyond measles, Madaline has continued to drive improvements across Montefiore. She piloted a strategy to reduce catheter-associated bloodstream infections, as well as urinary-tract infections. Last year, she was appointed to the Quality Improvement Committee of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and was nominated for the Department of Medicine Rising Star Award from Montefiore Medical Center.
