In June, BCBS announced that Serota will be retiring at the end of 2020 after leading the nation’s largest health insurer since 2000. The association’s focus is to work on collaboratives to better utilize data as payers and providers shift to value-based care. Last year, the association launched the BCBS Institute to address social determinants of care. It also piloted programs with Lyft to address transportation issues for people, and worked with CVS Health and Walgreens to tackle pharmacy deserts.
