Last year, Centene reached nearly 1.5 million members. The company won a contract to serve Medicaid beneficiaries in North Carolina starting in 2020. In March, Centene said it would buy Medicaid insurer WellCare Health Plans which the purchase is expected to close in the first half of 2020. The American Hospital Association urged the Trump Administration to investigate the merger, which would be covering 22 million people in Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and health insurance exchange plans.
