In June, UnitedHealthcare announced McMahon as the company’s new CEO. Since joining the company in 2003, McMahon was the president and chief operating officer at Optum, executive vice president of Enterprise Operations at UnitedHealth Group, and chief executive officer at OptumRx. In June, UnitedHealth acquired DaVita Group. This November, the company’s authorization policy changed to shift outpatient surgeries to lower-cost settings outside of the hospital. McMahon said the policy would save customers $500 million in 2020.
