Katz took over the nation’s largest municipal health system in January 2018. Since that time, he’s pushed a number of initiatives, including expanding access to primary-care services and trimming costs. He recently told a city council committee that the health system is on track to achieve $757 million from revenue-generating initiatives and $430 million from expense-reducing initiatives. The system expects to end the year with a cash balance of $781 million, with positive cash balances expected through the length of its five-year transformation plan.
