Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare - 2018
Stephen Lockhart
Chief medical officer, Sutter Health
As historic wildfires ravaged Northern California, Lockhart was on the front lines ensuring that Sutter was ready to respond to community needs. As chief of the incident command center, he was able to position critical support services across the region. Lockhart accelerated Sutter's credentialing process to ensure that clinicians in Santa Rosa could gain privileges at other area hospitals, clinics and surgery centers. He eliminated internal barriers to offer video visits to affected patients, ensuring that they could get proper care when primary-care centers were shuttered. And, he oversaw efforts to ensure that employees from Santa Rosa could work in other facilities or deal with personal issues without losing pay. Aside from his work during the fires, Lockhart in 2017 also became the executive sponsor of Sutter's multicultural inclusion resource groups, which aim to advance culturally competent care across the organization.
