Maryland in 2017 completed her transition to president and CEO of Ascension Healthcare. In that role, she oversees operations of 2,500 care sites in 22 states and the District of Columbia, including 141 hospitals. She collaborated with physicians across the nation to create Ascension Medical Group, which now boasts 6,500 employed providers across the country. Maryland has also been at the forefront of pushing Ascension to tackle one of the nation’s most pressing healthcare issues—access to behavioral healthcare. Under her leadership, the large not-for-profit provider developed a behavioral health service line. She’s also spoken publicly and penned opinion pieces advocating for a more coordinated approach to addressing the opioid epidemic.
