In anticipation of something going wrong, Sutton-Wallace ensured that the medical center had a plan of action. The medical center ended up treating 30 people that day, including 20 who were injured when a car plowed into protesters. An independent review of the response to the protests praised UVA's planning and emergency response efforts. More broadly, Sutton-Wallace has led the medical center on a number of care improvement journeys. The hospital reduced C. difficile infections 35% in 2017.
