Appointed in July 2016, Thomas leads the second-largest hospital in the Baptist Health network. She also is the first woman to hold the title of president in the system's 60-year history and is one of a handful of African-American hospital presidents in Florida. She led a $130 million expansion plan and implemented a number of initiatives aimed at improving workflow and patient satisfaction. One of those fast-track triage program in the emergency department was put to the test when Hurricane Irma hit in September. The hospital saw 500 patients during the storm.
