Lofton has led CHI and its 101 hospitals since 2003. Along with Dignity Health's Lloyd Dean, he finalized negotiations around a potential merger that, if approved will create one of the nation's largest not-for-profit health systems. Lofton would be co-CEO with Dean. For the past couple of years, Lofton has been leading a turnaround at CHI after the system experienced challenges while moving quickly into value-based operations. And as CHI has righted the ship financially, Lofton continued to emphasize improvements in patient care. The system advanced a number of population health initiatives and has been a leader in developing clinically integrated networks.
