Philip Ozuah
COO, Montefiore Medicine
Ozuah is president of Montefiore Health System and COO of Montefiore Medicine. He joined Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1992 as a pediatric intern and resident. Montefiore operates six hospitals and an extended-care facility with more than 2,000 beds, and provides primary and specialty care through a network of more than 150 locations. Ozuah has written extensively about health problems that disproportionately hit underserved communities, such as asthma, obesity and environmental exposures. He is credited with expanding access to care in low-income communities and recruiting skilled leaders during his tenure as physician-in-chief of the Children's Hospital at Montefiore and chair of the pediatrics department at Einstein. Ozuah practiced medicine in Nigeria, where he obtained his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, and in Los Angeles, where he earned a master's degree in education from the University of Southern California. He also holds a doctorate in educational leadership and administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
