Churchwell has been executive vice president of health affairs and COO at Boston Children's since August 2013. He has led initiatives to improve the patient experience as well as spur growth in personalized medicine. Before joining Boston Children's, one of the nation's largest children's hospitals, Churchwell was CEO of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del. Under his leadership, the institution was recognized by the Leapfrog Group as one of 12 safest children's hospitals. Churchwell also served as CEO and executive director for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital, part of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, and was appointed the Robert and Dana Smith Associate Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School.
