50 Most Influential Physician Executives – 2018
Rank: 1
Scott Gottlieb
Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration
Gottlieb is no stranger to the inner workings of the FDA. He served as deputy commissioner at the agency for President George W. Bush. Democrats initially balked at Gottlieb's nomination to lead the agency, noting that as a consultant he had close ties to the pharmaceutical industry. Since being confirmed in May 2017, however, his work to speed up approval of generics and calls for price transparency have muffled some of those concerns.
