Tidelands Health, serving coastal South Carolina, used the 2017 solar eclipse to its advantage. Realizing it had some brand-recognition challenges, the health system looked for a meaningful way to engage with consumers. Through the "See it Safely" campaign, Tidelands promoted the giveaway of NASA-approved eclipse viewing glasses to individuals living in the health system's primary service area. Within 24 hours, the social media effort resulted in requests for more than 11,000 pairs of glasses. The campaign generated thousands of likes and shares. Less than one month after the campaign launch, 85,000 pairs of viewing glasses had been requested. The campaign allowed Tidelands to collect more than 18,000 new email addresses as well, two-thirds of which belonged to potential patients.
