Faulkner is the founder and longtime CEO of Epic Systems Corp., a privately held healthcare software company that has grown into one of the most dominant providers of electronic health record systems. Faulkner, a computer programmer with a degree in mathematics, founded the company in 1979 with a $6,000 investment that came partially from her parents. From those modest beginnings, Epic has risen to great heights, with more than half of the U.S. population estimated to have their healthcare information stored on an Epic EHR system. Faulkner has also held influential roles outside the company, including the federal Health IT Policy Committee, representing the health IT industry on a key advisory panel to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
