Top 25 Women in Healthcare - 2017
Emma Walmsley
Incoming CEO, GlaxoSmithKline
When Walmsley takes over for Andrew Witty as CEO of GlaxoSmithKline in March, she will be the first woman to head a top global pharmaceutical company. She joined Brentford, U.K.-based GSK in 2010 after spending 17 years working for cosmetics giant L'Oreal. She has been a member of GSK's corporate executive team since 2011 and served as the CEO of GSK Consumer Healthcare, a joint venture between GSK and Novartis, which was created in March 2015. GSK Consumer Healthcare is one of the world's largest consumer health companies, developing and manufacturing products in wellness, nutrition, oral health and skin care. Walmsley takes the helm in a challenging market for drug companies, especially in the U.S. market where pharma is under intensifying pressure over soaring prices.
