Philip Ozuah

Ozuah has been executive vice president and COO of Montefiore Health System since 2012. Montefiore is an academic medical center that cares primarily for low-income patients in its hospitals and clinics in the Bronx, which has an estimated 117,000 undocumented residents. Ozuah was born in Nigeria, where he obtained his medical degree. He got his start at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1992 as a pediatric intern and resident. Ozuah has written extensively about health problems that disproportionately affect underserved communities, such as asthma, obesity and environmental exposures. He is credited with expanding access to healthcare in low-income communities and recruiting skilled leaders during his tenure as physician-in-chief of the Children's Hospital at Montefiore and chair of the pediatrics department at Einstein.
