Dr. Richard Gilfillan, CEO of Trinity Health since late 2013, for more than 30 years has built successful organizations in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors to improve quality and deliver better healthcare outcomes. As the first director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, he worked quickly with payers and providers to develop innovative models to improve patient care and reduce costs. Prior to his appointment at the CMMI, Gilfillan was president and CEO of Geisinger Health Plan, the insurance arm of the integrated health system. Previously, he was senior vice president for national network management at Coventry Health Care. Earlier he also held executive positions at Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia.
