Rank 1(tied)
Lisa Murkowski,
60
(R-Alaska), U.S. Senate
- Compensation: $174,000
- Years on list: 1
Murkowski is the first Alaskan-born senator and only the sixth U.S. senator to serve the state. Since joining the Senate in 2002, Murkowski has been a strong advocate on important issues facing the state, including healthcare, energy and infrastructure development. Murkowski is a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and a senior member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Murkowski voted against all the versions of the Better Care Reconciliation Act, taking heat from Senate GOP leadership and President Donald Trump. She expressed concern over the number of Alaskans who stood to lose coverage under Medicaid, as well as the partisan nature in which the legislation was crafted behind closed doors.
